2º Enduro Cycla Basajaun Burdindogui
This weekend took place in the village of Eugui the 2nd Enduro cycla Basajaun. We tunned-up the Merida One sixty and the Pedalier equipement and went there. This race went trough the paths of Burdindogui mountain. The two first stages could be trained, but the third was secret.
Here is the track by falso biker: http://es.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=7744926
The 3 descents were very good, combining flow sections with others much technical . Very hard climbs. Although most of the time we were riding by the shadow, it was a very hot day…and nearly 1700 m of climb. Ainhoa did most of the climbs transported. She’s only 12 and is unviable for her to do all these climbs. However, the technical descents were a significant challenge for a girl ….
Our tarject for the race wasn’t very ambitious….just finish.
Stage 1 : lots of flow in the first half of the stage with only some easy drops. Big ramps in the second half. We went down together all the stage. Two silly fall losing the grip…only time lost.
The climb for the second stage was the key of the race. Hard. It wasn’t a time problem (we had a delay because of a puncture of Urko and arrived to start without problems). But nearly 2 h pedaling (some times pushing) did forces go down.
Stage 2: the most difficult of the race. Lots of rock drops (usually with chicken lines) and some very technical steps. Ainhoa rode well trough this stage. I rode behind and had problems to follow her. I had to stop many times because of some problems in my front wheel. I had a nice crash and nearly more…when I finished the stage I realized that I wasn’t so bad rider (I am…) but was a trouble in the front hub that didn’t let spin the wheel …….
The climb for the stage 3 was the same of the second, but the fatigue made penalize many riders. I tried to repair my hub, but it wasn’t possible. I had to retire … without complains, it’s the first time it happens to me. I left Urko like surrogate father, took my camera and went to the 3rd stage to take some photos.
Tramo 3: Secret stage. A natural path old mountain style. Like the other stages, it combined flow and technical steps. Ainhoa had a crash losing an important time, but she arrived safely to the end…
It was great to see a lot of public in the stages pulling for the racers.
Ainhoa with her cousins. They didn’t want to miss the first race near home.
After the race, the organizers prepared a luch in Eugui before the awards ceremony. Except for the warm beer, the rest was excellent…
Waitings are always long…..
Ainhoa was the first women.
After the awards ceremony there was a material raffle … Aimar was the innocent hand. Many tickets and gifts. Ainhoa wons a pair of Fiveten shoes …. so She couldn’t be happier …
We had a good time. It was a great race for Ainhoa, ranked 48 of 78 racers.
Markel Uriarte got an amazing victory …he rode the third stage with a broken pedal… awesome.
Thank the organization and especially Juan for the effort they have made to allow Ainhoa take part in the race. Without all the help you have given us, she couldn’t race. Although there have been problems with some times, we had a great day. You did a great job preparing everything.
Special thanks also to all who have been hanging pictures. I took them for me and I use them in the post.
